Contest Information
-
What is this contest for?
Minnesota kids 11 to 13 years old are invited to create anti-tobacco video advertisements as part of the upcoming National Conference on Tobacco or Health October 24–26, 2007, in Minneapolis. Join the thousands of kids who already know that, in reality, most teens don’t smoke, and help prevent others from chancing a life hooked on tobacco.
-
How do I sign up for the contest?
To sign up for the contest, send an e-mail to startsmart@danya.com and tell us you are planning to participate. Give us your name, school, teacher’s name, and school phone number. When you sign up, you will receive tips on developing your ad from the StartSMART program.
-
Are there any prizes?
You bet! Prizes include complimentary registrations to the National Conference on Tobacco or Health in October as well as portable DVD players, MP3 players, and gift certificates. Winning ads will also be on view at the conference.
-
What should my ad be about?
Everyone knows that smoking leads to cancer and other diseases. Choose another theme that kids need to hear, such as “Most kids don’t smoke,” “Tell the truth about Big Tobacco,” and “Say no to smoke.” Check out the rest of the Web site for more ideas or come up with one of your own. Don’t copy someone else’s work—be original.
-
Do I need expensive editing equipment?
Fancy video editing equipment isn’t necessary—it’s all done with a video camera with in-camera editing.
-
How long should my ad be?
Ads should not be longer than 45 seconds, about the length of a TV commercial. Ads should be smaller than 100MB.
-
What video file format should I use?
See About Your Video for information on video file formats.
-
How do I submit my video ad?
See How to Submit for more information on how to submit your ad.
-
When is the contest deadline?
All entries must be submitted online by October 17, 2007.
-
Will my ad be posted to the Web site?
Yes, if we like it, it will appear in our Ads Gallery for other teens to see.
-
What else should I know?
For other important contest information, rules, and disclaimers, see Ad Disclaimer.
